Dialogue with the creator of King Kong: What would you do if you were trapped on Skull Island?
Video clip: Ren Jie
Special feature of 1905 film network "Kong: Skull Island" landed in the mainland cinema on March 24th. Recently, the film creator Tom Hiddleston, Oscar winner Brie Larson and director samuel jackson came to Beijing together. We also took this opportunity to have an exclusive conversation with the three of them and listened to their thrilling journey of surviving on a desert island.
Everyone has different ideas about this Skull Island. Tomson is quite confident that even if he is trapped, he can adapt to the environment quickly. When it is a big deal, he will watch his favorite "Happy Man" for the rest of his life. Brie Larson fell into "pessimism" and bluntly said that a lonely life could not go on; Samuel jackson likes big animals (elephants, hippos … … ), he thinks that as long as they don’t provoke each other, everyone can live in peace on the island, but if King Kong is a big mouse, it is another matter.
Tomson: After King Kong, I miss PK Godzilla the most. My characters are all like me.
Although Tom Hiddleston has a Chinese nickname "Shake Sen" that sounds rather pleasant and cute, it will not affect his image as a "male god" in the eyes of many China fans. After starring in Loki, the evil god in the Raytheon series, Tom Hiddleston gained a lot of fans around the world. Later, he also participated in Midnight in Paris, Love Forever, and other literary films.
In addition to performing, "Shake Sen" has another plus item: as a graduate of Cambridge University majoring in classical literature, he knows a lot about Shakespeare’s works. Tom Hiddleston, a self-proclaimed "die-hard fan", not only won the first Best Newcomer Award in his life with Shakespeare’s plays, but also read Shakespeare’s works on many occasions. The elegant accent and voice line not only circle the powder, but also put another iconic charm label on Shakeson.
Facing this "male god" who is full of literary style, our interview started from many details of Conrad in Kong: Skull Island. Later, Tom Hiddleston also shared his thoughts and feelings when he played Loki, Henry V and other figures in the past. Of course, apart from serious topics, we also don’t forget to chat with Shakeson about some light topics. For example, if King Kong is set as a giant toad, he will probably collapse. The next movie wants to challenge Godzilla, his childhood favorite, and if he is unfortunately trapped on Skull Island, he plans to make friends with King Kong and watch Happy Man &hellip for the rest of his life. …
Enthusiastic adventure movies Loki and other characters have their own shadows.
1905 Movie Network: The series "King Kong" is a classic in movie history. I want to know what attracts you most about this new work besides this reason.
Tom Hiddleston: I’ve never acted in an adventure movie, but I’ve enjoyed watching this kind of works since I was a child, such as raiders of the lost ark and Jurassic Park series, so I think joining Kong: Skull Island is a good opportunity for me to realize an "explorer’s dream".
1905 Movie Network: Your character looks decadent at first, but after joining the task, he has obviously changed in appearance and personality. What do you think is the reason for his change?
Tom Hiddleston: You know, you are the first person to find out and ask me this detail, and I’m very glad that you noticed it, because for my role, he conveyed a message through this transformation. At the beginning of the movie, my character Conrad is a well-trained but lost former special soldier. He experienced so much in the Vietnam War that he didn’t know whether he could adjust his mind and return to his motherland and family. So Conrad is wandering in Saigon, doing nothing every day. This time, the mission to Skull Island made him feel the feeling of being a soldier again, and his contact with King Kong made him rediscover human emotions.
1905 Movie Network: Your character has been following Samuel Jackson’s instructions for a long time. What is the reason, and then what changed his attitude?
Tom Hiddleston: Samuel Jackson plays a very dignified colonel. As a soldier, Conrad knows that he should not easily question or disobey the orders given by an officer, because it will cause people’s instability, so he has been trying to maintain this balance in the first half until he finds that the colonel has lost his mind.
1905 Movie Network: You have played many characters with great personality, such as Loki in Thor, Thomas in Scarlet Peak, Adam in Love Forever and so on. Then, when you turn around and play the role of an ordinary person, such as Conrad, will you feel a little stressed and challenged?
Tom Hiddleston: I don’t think so. Because (thinking … … ) Because every different role I played at every stage is actually like me, which is my self-expression of that moment. Loki, Thomas, Conrad, Henry V and so on … … They all have my shadow, which represents my emotions and feelings. Although my life is very different from theirs, I am not a god, a king, a special soldier or a pirate, but I hope to bring these characters the personality that I may show in my current situation.
Trapped in an isolated island, watch "Happy Man" After King Kong, I want to fight Godzilla most.
1905 Movie Network: Although King Kong is huge and frightening, his heart is still kind, so you finally accepted him as the king of nature. I want to know if there is any animal that will make you absolutely unbearable if it is set as King Kong, whether it is good or not.
Tom Hiddleston: Haha, what do you think?
1905 Movie Network: Then I must choose crocodile … …
Tom Hiddleston: Indeed, it must be terrible if the crocodile becomes so huge, but it should crawl slowly. I think it should be terrible for all animals to become so huge … … In my heart, maybe the giant frog is the most terrible and unbearable, although I don’t know why.
1905 Movie Network: What is your personal favorite scene in the movie? I like the part where you cut the giant bird with your bare hands best.
Tom Hiddleston: That scene is really my favorite one. The director gave me a picture three years ago, which showed a man waving a sword and cutting off the wings of those giant birds, just like in the movie. That picture didn’t look real at the time, more like an excerpt from a comic book. So I feel honored to be able to finally restore this scene in Kong: Skull Island.
1905 Movie Network: If you are trapped on Skull Island, do you think you can persist? What will you do? If you could only download one movie and take it to the island, which one would you choose?
Tom Hiddleston: This is really a great question. I think I should try hard to survive on Skull Island. I am a person who can adapt to the new environment. Although I may feel very stressed, I think I can overcome it. I may need to be friends with him and let him protect me. I mean King Kong, not the one sitting in the corner now! (Laughter) Of course, he also takes care of me … … (Continue to laugh)
If I can only download one movie and take it to the island, I think … … I think I will choose Happy Man.
1905 Movie Network: Why?
Tom Hiddleston: Because this is a movie I like to watch since I was a child, I think it can make me feel at home, remind me of London and my family, and it is very interesting.
1905 Movie Network: Judging from the story at the end, you should continue to play in this series, right? So which monster do you want to face most next?
Tom Hiddleston: Actually, I like Godzilla best. I am a huge fan of Godzilla. Since I was a child, I like watching Godzilla’s cartoons or all other film and television works and playing with those model toys. But Samuel Jackson said that he especially liked Mothra, and I think this proposal is not bad.
titbits
Although the trip to Beijing to promote "Kong: Skull Island" was very urgent, on the day of the interview, Tomson kept quite lively. During the conversation, I inadvertently misunderstood his answer to the question "What would you do if you were trapped on Skull Island?" I misunderstood his mistake in pointing at King Kong as referring to the staff in the adjacent position. This own goal caused both Tomson and I to laugh at the same time in the interview.
I didn’t expect that after the interview, Shakeson still didn’t let go of this stalk, and immediately turned to ask the innocent staff: "Since she asked, would you consider going to the island with me?" Xiao Bian, who is very envious of "being shackled" big brother, really wants to answer for him: it is better to take me!
